Calculate before moving
Find the side to move, check the opponent’s threats, then consider checks, captures and direct threats of your own. Imagine the strongest defensive reply before committing. In puzzle mode the opponent’s responses are played automatically so you can focus on your side’s solution.
Hints reveal the next move. A revealed solution is available for study, but it is more useful to retry the position later from memory. Local completion counts include assisted attempts and do not represent a player rating.
Where these positions come from
This release includes 720 selected positions from the Lichess puzzle database, distributed under CC0. The selected lines have been checked for legal replay. Ratings and theme labels come from that dataset. The daily selection is ours, and may differ from Lichess’s own daily puzzle.
