Study this opening
Open Sicilian development
The exchange trades a flank pawn for White’s central pawn. The open c-file and central pressure give Black plans, but development and king safety still come first.
Najdorf starting position
The move ...a6 controls b5 and prepares possible queenside expansion. It is a flexible starting point with many demanding continuations, not a complete defense by itself.
Dragon development
The bishop develops on the long diagonal. Opposite-side castling can lead to sharp play later; do not ignore White’s threats while preparing your own attack.
Against the Alapin
White’s c3 supports d4. Black challenges the center immediately; the queen recapture is possible because the usual Nc3 development is temporarily blocked by the pawn.
Against a closed setup
Both sides develop behind a less open center. Black prepares flexible development; central breaks need calculation before the pawn structure changes.
